Galway Civic Trust - Education

Creating "good citizens" for the future

In a new departure for the Civic Trust, we were granted €2,500 by the Heritage Council towards the cost of Galway it's my City producing an education pack for schools. Entitled Galway – It's My City / Gaillimh – 'Sé Mo Chathair, the pack is designed for use by 5th and 6th class primary students, and it aims to create a knowledge of what makes Galway special, thereby encouraging our youth to take pride in their City, and become the kind of citizens who take care of it. The promotion of good citizenship was recognised as one of the principle objectives in the recently published Strategy for Galway produced by the Galway City Development Board, and it is in this context that the Trust took up the task of creating an education resource for schools which would be specifically designed for use by Galway students. Following class testing, the final Pack was produced and distributed to every primary school in the City.

Galway Civic Trust has also published Guide to the Wildlife of Galway's Waterways.
