Recent Project - St. Augustine's Well

St. Augustine's Well
St. Augustine's Well on the shore of Lough Atalia has been a feature of the area for many generations, and is revered by locals for its healing power, particularly for those with eye problems. Work on the well was hampered by the tidal nature of the site. However, the Trust's Community Employment scheme was able to improve access to the well by installing a new St. Augustine's Wellset of steps down from the main road. They also installed a stone bench, which provides a degree of comfort for the many elderly people who visit the site. A dry stone retaining wall was built around the well, and a beautiful stone cross was commissioned by the Trust to replace the concrete one which previously identified the site.

The result is a wonderfully restored holy well, refurbished in consultation, and co-operation, with the local Residents Association.
